About us
Who we are and what we offer
Who we are
Two Sisters - one living in Germany, one in Japan - sharing a strong love for beautifully crafted objects and items of everyday use. As one of us is a trend expert and the other a cultural anthropologist, we love to consider a subject from those two different angles. MÌA has become a project that allows us to combine our talents and to focus on what really matters. We are here to empower artisans and to change the path of consumption.
We Believe in an Artisan(s) Future
2020 has shown us how important it is to change the course of what we normalize. Faster and higher can no longer be sustained. But the idea of slowing down production and consumption isn't new. To create a more sustainable way of consumption, we need to rethink our values. What is good quality? What do we really need? How and where do we consume products, and what is our responsibility? Those are just a few questions we are asking ourselves every day, and that lead us to this path. Let us answer them together.
Our knowledge about the process of creating, the different quality of materials, and in the end recognizing the downside of industrial productions made us appreciative of slower and more mindful consumption. We believe that craftsmanship is the ultimate key to a better way of production, trade, and in the end to a better society. Craftsmanship is a cultural heritage with a long history of intercultural exchange. It combines the high value of old traditions as well as an innovative spirit. For us, the hidden potentials of old traditions lie exactly there: Where innovation is paired with well-tried techniques, there lies a promising future.
Follow us on our journey to find intriguing similarities across artisan cultures from around the world and their specialties that make them unique.
